Valentine Sweater
My son, whose favorite color is red, asked me to make him a red sweater. My original plan was to make a simple raglan pullover from Cascade 220, but as you can see, I got a bit waylaid.
I made this up as I went along, beginning with a stitch pattern derived from a Debbie Bliss child's sweater. Rope cables alternate directions, with ribs between. Since I was knitting in the round instead of pieces, I inserted seed stitch panels at each side. There are cables on the raglan lines (though these could have been more elegantly planned), and the neckline has some emergency decreasing with a simple roll neck. I am not completely happy with the neckline yet, but decided to evaluate the fit at the beginning of sweater season next year, and decide what to do then.
The pictures here show the sweater as worn; if I ever win the battle between red yarn and digital photography, I'll post some detail shots.Begun mid-January 2004, completed on Valentine's Day. I think I used 4.5mm circs for this one.
